 Blog Post 9 Learning Outcomes Wellness: Demonstrate respect for the contributions and perspectives of others when working together or make decisions or achieve team goals. Students acknowledge and connect perspectives of self and others through communication and listening skills. What Did Students Do? Students focused on collaborating and compromising! They worked in random groups to practice some math skills, descriptive writing, and art. Each group worked with three pumpkins to measure, estimate, describe, design, and carve. This afternoon was focused on sharing ideas, listening to the ideas of others, and working together for a common plan. Family Connections Ask your child: -how they contributed to the group?  -how they included others in the group? -what was successful when working in the group? -what was challenging about working in the group?  Blog Post 8 Oct. 17 - 21 Celebrations Grade 5 Patrollers did an amazing job out there this week.  We are so thankful for so many students who are willing to help keep our school safe.  Our field trip was an amazing success.  Our students made us proud!   Learning Outcomes Science Recognize and describe one or more examples of wetland ecosystems found in the local area Understand that a wetland ecosystem involves interactions between living and nonliving things, both in and around water Identify some plants and animals found at a wetland sit, both in and around the water Identify human actions that can threaten the abundance or survival of living things in wetland ecosystems  What Did Students Do? Students began the week by examining types of wetlands in Alberta and invertebrates commonly found in Alberta wetlands.  In groups, students looked at 6 different invertebrates.  They learned interesting facts about them as well as looking at their life cycles.  On Tuesday afternoon we went o
 Blog Post 7  Oct. 11th - 14th Celebrations The students did an amazing job of their Terry Fox Assembly. Each student contributed in a significant way through singing, speaking, drawing posters, helping set up and take down, and doing the cheer. Blog Post 6 October 4-7 Learning Outcomes English Language Arts: -Construct Meaning From Text -Experience Various Texts  -Respond to Texts What happens when we are reading?  Reading is Thinking.  Through this lesson we discussed skills we should be using while we are engaging with text.  Each separate skill was presented and then practiced with use of a section of text.  Students practiced visualizing, inferring, summarizing, questioning, clarifying, predicting, connecting and synthesizing.  This will lead into our lessons next week around the FAB 4.  What Did Students Do? -Students listened to the teacher read passages from various texts and then practiced the individual skills from our Reading is Thinking lesson  -Students created a visual journal page for "Reading Is Thinking" Family Connections Ask your child: -What are the skills you are using while you are reading? -Read a passage from a text at your house and practice one or two of these skills
