Blog Post 30 April 24 - 28 Learning Outcomes Literacy Search for further ideas and information from others, and from oral, print, and other media texts to extend understanding   What Did  Students Do? Students were introduced to a new novel, Song For A Whale by Lynne Kelly.  We discussed puddle questions which are easily answered and don't require much thinking and ocean questions which require a deeper level of thought.  Students were then introduced to three different types of questions.  Quiz questions are questions which can be answered from the text.  These are often puddle questions and do not require a great deal of thought.  The answers are either right in the text or easily inferred from the text.  Wonder/thinking questions are questions which come after "I wonder...," or ask "Why do you think...? or How do you...?"  These questions require you to think beyond the text and make inferences based on information and events in the book and from personal exp
Blog Post 29 April 17-21 Learning Outcomes Science - Classroom Chemistry Describe the properties and interactions of various household liquids and solids, and interpret their interactions   What Did  Students Do? Students took part in an experiment before Spring Break.  Their question was, How does vinegar affect the absorption of food dye by hard boiled eggs?  They discovered that by increasing the amount of vinegar in their water/dye solution, the eggs absorbed a greater amount of egg dye.   Students then worked in groups to create their own experiment changing one variable in the experiment.  They all chose a different liquid to add to their water to see if it would affect the rate of dye absorption.  Students wrote their own labs complete with a question, hypothesis, materials, procedure, diagram, observations, and a conclusion.   This was a first step in being able to set up a scientific experiment.  This is a skill we will use throughout our work in Classroom Chemistry.   Ask You
