Learning Outcomes

- Describe and provide examples of edges and faces of 3-D objects, and sides of 2-D shapes

- Identify 90 degree angles

 What Did Students Do?

Students explored the difference between right angles and non-right angles. They met in small groups to draw different shapes with the following criteria:

- create a closed shape that has at least one right angle

- create a closed shape that has exactly two right angles

- create a closed shape that has exactly 3 right angles

- create a closed shape that has exactly 6 right angles

Students then created a visual journal page to demonstrate shapes that are parallel, intersecting, perpendicular, vertical, and horizontal.

Family Connections

Ask your child:

- How can you identify right angles on a closed shape?

- Are all perpendicular lines intersecting lines? Or are all intersecting lines perpendicular?

- Can you draw parallel lines?

Minecraft Visit

We had an exciting visit this week from Mr. Blais who is the Specialist for Teaching and Learning with Technology at the Calgary Board of education, and from Mr. Cameron who is the Economic Resilience Lead for the City of Calgary.  They were very excited to hear about our learning with 2School and how we have connected it to our Minecraft Builds.  Many of our students had the opportunity to share their learning and their Minecraft builds.  Mr. Blais and Mr. Cameron were amazed with how well our students were able to articulate their learning.  Great job Grade 5s!

We discussed different ways to share information and students identified talking, signing, writing, pictures, and more as ways to do this. They determined that when sharing information, it needs to be clear and interesting. They then created a target to ensure their posters w...

Their graphs included titles, labels, y axis, x axis, key, numbers, and information collected.   Family Connections Ask your child: -What was your ...
